OUR STORY

Gaia Living Designs began with a simple question:
What if the landscape around your home could do more than look beautiful?
We create living landscapes that bring those relationships into everyday life—places that are beautiful, productive, resilient, and deeply connected to the people who live within them.
The idea grew from years spent learning from landscapes themselves.
Founder Matan Dubnikov studied sustainable food systems at Rutgers University before working on farms, gardens, and regenerative landscapes across the United States, Costa Rica, Italy, and Japan. Along the way, one lesson kept returning: the abundance found on a well-tended farm, or in a healthy ecosystem, do not belong only in wild places or on acres of farmland. They can begin right outside the kitchen door.
Our name comes from Gaia— the ancient Greek goddess, mother of Earth—and the "Gaia Hypothesis"—tthe beautifully wild idea that Earth is a living, breathing creature. That idea remains at the heart of our work.

Matan’s work has taken him from backyard gardens and community landscapes in the Northeast to farms and regenerative projects in Costa Rica, Italy, Vermont, and Japan. His approach combines ecological observation, practical growing experience, and design with a belief that landscapes can become places of nourishment, curiosity, and connection.
